19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his skill to play at the top level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an better service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
