Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior official said the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
